Mass notification platform with geo‑targeting
We transformed a basic email service into a scalable mass notification platform with geo‑targeting. The solution combines a robust backend architecture, a web interface for campaign management, and a mobile app for real‑time delivery.
The system handles up to 200,000 messages per day, supports multi‑country operations, and enables precise targeting by radius, streets, or entire districts.

About client
The client is a US‑based technology company operating in the digital communications space. Their mission is to build tools for rapid information delivery, supporting both business communications and emergency alert systems.
The company combines the agility of a startup with the stability of a mature organization. Due to an NDA, the client’s name cannot be disclosed, but the objective was clear: to build a system that scales reliably and performs under high load.
About project
At the start, the client had an email service with limited capabilities. It supported basic messaging but could not handle large volumes and lacked geographic targeting. Mass delivery took hours and offered little flexibility in audience segmentation.
We began with an MVP by integrating Webmail with the Triton mailing service to enable reliable high‑volume delivery. Early iterations validated the approach—the system successfully handled tens of thousands of messages per day.
Next, we introduced a map‑based interface with address‑level geotagging and the ability to target users by radius or specific zones. Later, we added multi‑country support and a mobile application for receiving notifications.
Request
The client needed a scalable mass messaging solution with flexible targeting capabilities. Key requirements included rapid MVP delivery, support for hundreds of thousands of messages per day, a user‑friendly web interface for operators, and a mobile app for end users.
The system also had to handle large datasets efficiently and be adaptable to multi‑country use.

Tools
The solution used PHP and MySQL for the backend, and HTML, JavaScript, and Knockout.js for the frontend. Mapping was initially powered by Google Maps and later migrated to Mapbox for improved flexibility. A native mobile app ensured reliable delivery, while a distributed architecture enabled high‑load performance and regional scalability.
Team
The project was delivered by a team of four specialists. Two backend developers were responsible for the system core and integrations with external services, while a frontend developer built the map‑based interface and campaign configuration tools. A technical lead oversaw the architecture and ensured scalability.
On the client side, analysts were closely involved, validating use cases and shaping new requirements.
What we did
We evolved the product from an MVP into a full‑scale system. The initial version focused on bulk delivery and basic map integration, while subsequent iterations expanded functionality to include radius- and district‑based targeting, integration with external address databases, multi‑country support, and a mobile application.
Handling high load was a key challenge. In peak scenarios, the system processed over 200,000 emails per day while supporting map‑based targeting. We optimized the architecture to ensure stable, delay‑free performance.
Result
The client received a system that fundamentally transformed message delivery. What began as a simple email tool evolved into a scalable mass notification platform with a web interface and mobile app. Messages can now be delivered not only to thousands of users simultaneously, but also with precise geo‑targeting—by radius, streets, or entire neighborhoods.
The solution proved highly reliable, consistently handling hundreds of thousands of messages per day and enabling new use cases—from corporate communications to emergency alerts.
